Austin Pets Alive! is no ordinary animal shelter. Aside from the clever and hilarious names they give their good boys and girls, they’re at the forefront of the city’s No Kill initiative, and we commend them for that.

Since 1997, APA! has been saving the animals most at risk for euthanasia. When they began, Austin had a kill-rate of 87%. Today, the city’s save-rate is an amazing 97%, making it the largest No Kill city in the entire country.

But their work is far from over. There are still tons of animals in need of a home, and they would love for that home to be yours!
So if you’re thinking about getting a new pet, check out their website here. You can also foster a dog or cat while they wait for their forever home, or donate some much needed money to help out with one of their numerous programs.
