Few things feel better than the first few gulps of a cold glass of water when you’re thirsty as all hell. That feeling is your body saying “THANK YOU!”
We all know that water is absolutely essential to survival and that we can’t last very long without it. But let’s just say you, for whatever reason, say fuck it and decide to not drink it anymore. This is what would happen to you pretty quickly.
2
You’ll start to bloat up
Because you aren’t drinking enough water, your body will do whatever it can to ensure that it retains every drop it gets. So, you’ll actually start to gain weight due to water retention, albeit temporarily.
3
Your energy drops rapidly
Even a small amount of dehydration can lower your energy levels. Drinking sufficient amounts if water throughout the day will keep you hydrated (obviously lmao) and give your body more energy. A cold glass of water first thing in the morning can also help you deal with that groggy feeling.
4
Your ability to focus takes a big hit
Your brain is 80% water and works best when your body is taking in a sufficient amount of it. So, when you haven’t been drinking water at all, your ability to problem solve, pay attention, and focus on a singular idea or project decreases significantly. A properly hydrated persons ability to be mentally flexible is 14% greater than someone who is dehydrated, according to one UK study.
5
Being constantly dehydrated also increases your risk of having a stroke.
6
Your mood worsens
Do you get cranky when you haven’t had your morning coffee? Try going a while without some water. Studies at the University of Connecticut showed that both men and women were significantly more cranky and fatigued when even slightly dehydrated.
7
Your hunger burns
We often confuse dehydration. The next time your stomach growls, try drinking a glass of water and see what it does for you. In fact, people who are trying to lose weight often drink a glass of water before eating. When you are dehydrated you will experience this constant feeling of “hunger” and it will no doubt add to your crankiness and lack of focus.
8
Your metabolism plummets
A study from the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism sowed that after drinking two glasses of water, participants’ metabolism increased by a stunning 30%. Don’t get it twisted, drinking sufficient amounts of water will help you lose weight.
9
Headaches increase
Most people naturally reach for some water when they feel a headache coming on, and for good reason. Dehydration leads to headaches, simple as that.
10
Your skin worsens
When you are dehydrated, the collagen in your body starts to bind together and crack, leaving you with more lines and wrinkles for all to see. Keeping hydrated will help your skin out immensely.
11
Your poops will be out of whack
A properly hydrated body will have a far better shit schedule than a dehydrated one. In order to perform at its peak, your colon needs to absorb several liters of water a day. When it feels like you aren’t getting enough water, it will absorb what it can and keep it there, making it harder for you to drop cable.
12
Your kidneys and heart take a hit
Without water diluting the blood, your kidneys have to work extra hard to filter everything. Dehydration also contributes to kidney stones which are a total bitch, Dehydration also causes your heart to have to pump harder all day long in order to properly circulate your blood.
13
Your willy takes a hit
When you are dehydrated, your body produces more and more angiotensin, which is a hormone that is found in men who have erectile dysfunction.

So, yeah, drink more water.
