Students at West Virginia college will be hit with $750 fee if they refuse to get vaccinated - and they'll be penalized if they need to quarantine on campus if they get COVID-19

Students preparing to attend West Virginia Wesleyan College this fall semester will face a $750 fine if they aren't vaccinated, and they'll also be penalized should they need to quarantine on-campus if they happen to contract COVID-19.

WDTV-TV reports that the Buckhannon school will be charging students a $250 fee if they need to quarantine on-campus in the event they get the virus.

Meanwhile, the university confirmed on its website that any student who doesn't provide administrators with a valid vaccine card will face the nonrefundable $750 fine, according to the news outlet.

'The fee is going to be used to cover the expenses that will come with increased testing and other resources that the college will have to utilize and deploy to keep every student safe,' wrote Dean James Moore.

Any student or faculty members that aren't vaccinated will be forced to take a weekly COVID-19 test.

Meanwhile, a mask mandate remains in force for anyone on campus who has yet to be vaccinated.

Critics and supporters of the university's decision voiced their opinions on social media, with the critics drastically outweighing the supporters.

'I hope those students will choose to take their money elsewhere for their education!' Marilyn Pence commented on Facebook under the news outlet's post.

'Some college student is gonna make bank making fake vax cards this year' Donna Sue added.

'If this is true, that school needs boycotted!!!!' Carrie Bellville offered.

'This is no longer land of the free' wrote Tam M. Stuart.

Not everyone on social media was against the idea of charging a fine for those who aren't vaccinated, with several commentors offering a more positive view of the school's decision.

'Somebody’s got to do something. Thank you West Virginia Wesleyan for taking a stand' wrote Rob Tate Jr.

'Businesses also have freedom to make their own choices,' Jen Anderson added.

Outside of the university, several fortune 500 companies are setting their own vaccine mandates, including industry giants like Microsoft and Goldman Sachs, the New York Times reports.

The US military has said it will require all service personnel to be vaccinated, with Dr Anthony Fauci on Tuesday saying he thinks teachers should also be made to have the jab.

The White House COVID tsar says any such edict will come from individual states, and will not be mandated on a federal leve.
