Andrew Cuomo's daughter Michaela, 23, who came out as 'queer' last month now declares herself 'demisexual' - meaning she is only attracted to someone she has an 'emotional bond' with

Governor Andrew Cuomo's youngest daughter Michaela has declared herself to be 'demisexual'  in a discussion posted to Instagram, just weeks after she came out as 'queer'.

WebMD defines Demisexual as 'people who only feel sexually attracted to someone when they have an emotional bond.'

The 23-year-old Brown University graduate has opened up about her sexuality in honor of Pride month, sharing a couple of images of herself posing in a 'gay for you' baseball cap, with one image featuring the rainbow Pride flag and the Pansexual flag in the background.

'Michaela Kennedy-Cuomo is queer,' she began the post, adding: 'Today I stand in my queer identity with pride.'

'When I was in elementary school, I feared that I was lesbian. When I was in middle school, I came out to my family and close friends as bisexual. When I was in high school, I discovered pansexuality and thought, "That's the flag for me." And I've recently learned more about demisexuality, and have believed that that identity resonates with me most,' she said during on a livestream with Donato Tramuto, the former CEO of Tivity Health.

Kennedy-Cuomo said she 'always dreamed of a world in which nobody will have to come out, because everybody's sexuality will be assumed fluid […] but in a world that force-feeds cisgender heterosexuality, coming out of the closet is a lifelong process of unpacking internalized social constructions and stigmas.'

She noted that when she first came out as 'queer' she was worried she would be seen as 'attention-seeking,' since it's 'hip or cool to not be hetero in my liberal bubble.'

Neither Cuomo nor his ex-wife have yet to publicly comment on their daughter's decision to come out, however Michaela shared a video of herself rollerblading towards her mother while wearing her 'gay for you' baseball cap just minutes before her post went live last month.

She offered her own support to others within the LGBTQ community, as well as anyone who is struggling to embrace their own sexual identity or speak out about it publicly in a society that 'force feeds us compulsive heterosexuality'.

'I stand with a helping hand outreached to those finding their way from under socially constructed boxes to emerge from the closet. I’m standing with you,' Michaela wrote.

She continued: 'To those who are contending with the compulsive heterosexuality our society force feeds us and innate attraction beyond cis het folks, please know that you are not alone.

'To those who have yet to claim their sexual identity due to fear of physical, psychological, or financial safety, please know that you are unconditionally worthy of love and support.

'To the questioning folks, know that we all reserve the right to change our minds or evolve at anytime. There is nothing wrong with you for not fitting into a limiting, socially constructed box.

'You will be loved and embraced by those who’s hearts are inclusive enough to earn your expansive energy.'

The college graduate - who majored in Education and Human Development with a focus on Social Inequality - also took on a much more public-facing role during the COVID-19 pandemic, when her father enlisted her help with encouraging younger people to adhere to safety guidelines and social distancing.

Michaela joined her father at several press conferences, where she spoke about her own experiences during the pandemic and urged millennials and Gen-Z to stop being reckless while cases were soaring in the state.

She also used social media to promote social distancing and face coverings, sharing several posts on her feed and her Stories about the importance of following New York's safety guidelines.

Her role was very well paid by Cuomo, who gave each of his three daughters $330,000 from the $5 million book deal he inked last year, citing their 'tireless' work throughout the pandemic.

Cuomo's controversial book, American Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic, was released in October, just before New York's COVID-19 numbers spiked again, prompting him to send the state back into lockdown.

At the the time of its release, Cuomo refused to share details about the advance he had been given, however his office later confirmed the figures when he filed his taxes in April.

He was paid $3.12 million for the book in 2020, and is due to receive another $2 million over the next two years.

After taxes, he received a net payment of $1.5 million in 2020, a third of which he donated to charity. He gave the other two thirds to his three daughters, while praising them for doing 'tireless and effective work for all New Yorkers' during the pandemic.

All three young women moved in with their father at the Governor's Mansion in Albany last year and took turns appearing at press conferences, while also standing by their father as he rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange.

Cuomo was slammed for the book which was released in the midst of the pandemic and despite him being blamed for thousands of COVID deaths in nursing homes.

His book publisher, Crown - a division of Penguin Random House - stopped promoting it after the nursing home scandal, and as a number of women publicly accused him of sexual misconduct this year.

Michaela voiced her support for her father in the wake of sexual harassment claims made against the Governor, retweeting a post from family friend Billy Baldwin in March, which defended Cuomo's 'right to an investigation before everybody rushes to judgment'.

'I have known the entire Cuomo family since the 1980s. I have tremendous respect & admiration for every single one of them,' Baldwin's tweet said.

'Don't you think, after 40 years as a New York public servant, he deserves and has earned the right to an investigation before everybody rushes to judgment?'

Days earlier, Cuomo revealed that he had spoken to all three of his daughters about the 'spectrum of allegations' being made against him, saying that he told them he had 'never touched anyone inappropriately'.

'I told them what I told you-which is I never touched anyone inappropriately,' Cuomo said during a press conference.

'I never made any inappropriate advances and no one ever told me that they felt at the time that I made them feel uncomfortable or awkward.'
