Republicans Join Democrat Corruption – Vote to Accept Earmarks and the Frivolous Spending That Goes with Them

The Republican Party has agreed to join in on the Democrat’s corrupt practice of earmarks.  This is not good for the long-term solvency of the nation.

Earmarks are the congressional pet projects and special interest programs stuffed into pork-barrel spending bills.

Pelosi’s House Democrats proposed up to $13 billion in earmarks on House appropriations bills, 10 per member, for a total of up to 4,350 earmarks for fiscal year 2022.

According to Forbes:

Congressional earmarks are back. The Democratic majority in the U.S. House of Representatives will allow up to $13 billion in earmarks on House appropriations bills, 10 per member, for a total of up to 4,350 earmarks for fiscal year 2022.

House Republicans released a statement arguing that earmarks are a pathway to congressional corruption. One member of the caucus, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), argued that earmarks are “little more than legislative bribery.”

The House Republicans voted this week to join Democrats and allow earmarks along with the Democrats:

House Republicans narrowly voted Wednesday to allow their members to seek earmarks under certain conditions, making a clean break from a decade-long ban against seeking money for specific projects back home.

The 102-84 vote changes the party’s internal rules and allows Republicans to join the Democratic House majority as it puts in place a new process for earmarks in spending and transportation bills. Republicans were faced with a decision of whether to participate in earmarking, a practice they had railed against in the past, or potentially see their districts disadvantaged when it came to federal spending.

What is happening to our country?
