  1. Why would you patent a failed product?

    Polio increased by 50 per cent between 1957 and 1958, and 80 per cent from 1958 to 1959, after the introduction of mass immunisation.

    The shot ended up giving so many kids polio and causing deaths they had to stop it. But not before touting it as "safe and effective". But don't worry, it was all just a bad batch. That would never happen now. Except for people in the trials being given the wrong amounts. And the large numbers of serious side effects and deaths. 20 countries "paused" use of the AZ shot.
