Two armed burglars assault a woman and a baby and hold two other people hostage during a tense five-hour standoff in Queens

 Two armed men who allegedly assaulted a woman with her baby and held hostages against their will in Queens, New York, last night have surrendered. 

The alleged home invaders, aged 51 and 35, were arrested on 125th Street in South Richmond Hill at 2am after a five-hour standoff.

New York Police Department were still negotiating with the men after midnight  despite them having released two hostages.

Law enforcement officials received a report at around 9pm of a possible attempted burglary of a home near Liberty Avenue.

When police arrived at the home, officers saw a woman with a baby standing outside. The woman told the officers that two armed men assaulted her and barricaded themselves inside the home while holding at least two others against their will

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a woman with a baby. The woman told the officers that there were armed people in her home and that she had been assaulted.

Police said two people were inside the house and were being held against their will.

Just before 11pm, the two hostages were released.

‘We had two additional people that were in the home that were released, an elderly woman in her 80s and another female, possibly in her 50s, recently released,’ an official told WCBS-TV at the time.

‘We are still in communication with the people inside, and we’ll be here until the situation is resolved.’

The NYPD released a statement after midnight on Wednesday local time saying that officers were continuing to negotiate with the individuals inside the home

One of the women was taken to a hospital in an ambulance.

Just after midnight, police said that there were no hostages inside and that the suspects remained in the home. 

It is not clear how many hostages were involved in total.

Just before 2am police said two male suspects surrendered and they were placed in custody. 

Police have not identified the men and an investigation is ongoing.

NYPD told DailyMail.com the charges are pending.
