JFK's namesake grandson Jack Schlossberg and his daughter Caroline Kennedy give Joe Biden the Camelot endorsement as they bring some glamour to the Democratic convention

John F. Kennedy's grandson Jack Schlossberg and daughter Caroline Kennedy gave Joe Biden the blessing of America's most famous political dynasty by endorsing him at the Democratic National Convention last night.
'Once again, we need a leader who believes America's best days are yet to come... we need Joe Biden,' said Schlossberg, 27, as Biden was formally crowned as Democratic nominee for president on Tuesday night.
Caroline, 62, said she had known Biden since serving as his Senate intern in 1974 and had helped to choose him as Barack Obama's running mate in 2008.
Delegates watched footage of JFK accepting the nomination at the DNC in 1960, when he went on to defeat Richard Nixon in a hair's-breadth election which ushered in the 'Camelot' presidency that ended with his death in the first in a series of Kennedy family tragedies.

'It was a call for the young at heart, regardless of age or party,'  Schlossberg said of JFK's acceptance speech. 'Times have changed, but the themes of my grandfather’s speech—courage, unity, and patriotism—are as important today as they were in 1960. And once again, we need a leader who believes America’s best days are yet to come. We need Joe Biden.'
He also invoked his grandfather's 'ask not what your country can do for you" quote. "In this election, our future is on the ballot,' Schlossberg added. 'For my generation, it will define the rest of our lives. We need to tackle climate change. We need to end systemic racial injustice. We need to make healthcare available for everybody. And we need to rebuild an economy that helps working families. We can do this. We can reach new frontiers only with a president who asks what he can do with our country.'
Speaking to delegates via video-link, Caroline said Biden was 'a senator who cared, who led, who inspired.
'That's why I helped choose him to be Barack Obama's running mate in 2008,' she continued.
JFK's brother Ted Kennedy, a Massachusetts senator from 1962 to 2009, was an early backer of Obama during his hard-fought primary battle with Hillary Clinton in 2008.
'He is tough-minded but he also has an uncommon capacity to appeal to the better angels of our nature,' Ted Kennedy said of Obama in 2008, invoking Abraham Lincoln and giving the young senator the Camelot glow.

After Obama won the nomination, Caroline Kennedy served on Obama's vice-presidential selection committee which eventually settled on Biden.
Ted Kennedy, who died the following year, had served alongside Biden for his entire career in the US Senate after Biden was first elected in 1973.
Obama later appointed Caroline as US ambassador to Japan, where she again dealt with Biden as vice president.
'He stepped off Air Force Two wearing his aviator glasses and his big smile, radiating American optimism and generosity,' Caroline Kennedy recalled.
Caroline, who served in her diplomatic post until Obama and Biden left office in 2017, added that Biden would 'always put America's interests first.'
JFK's namesake grandson Schlossberg chimed in and said that in 2020 the 'future is on the ballot'. 'For my generation it will define the rest of our lives,' he said.

Schlossberg, 27,  is the son of Caroline Kennedy and her designer husband Edwin Schlossberg, who married in 1986.
Schlossberg, a Yale and Harvard graduate, followed in his uncle's foray into media, writing for publications including The Washington Post, TIME, and more, according to Esquire. He did, however, spend time in the capitol as a former Senate page and intern to John Kerry.
And two years ago he made his acting debut in CBS hit show Blue Bloods.
As Harvard Law School student, Jack Schlossberg accompanied his mother on official visits as ambassador including a trip to the Fukushima nuclear plant at the center of the 2011 disaster in Japan.
Tuesday was Schlossberg's first speaking role at a convention, though he has become more and more involved over the years in the family's philanthropic and humanitarian work.
In May, he appeared with Caroline to announce that the 2020 Profile in Courage Award would be focused on local frontline workers facing the novel coronavirus pandemic.
But last night some people appeared to be more taken by Mr Schlossberg himself, with the young man soon becoming the unlikely star of the convention.
Twitter users were quick to note not only the resemblance to his late uncle John F. Kennedy Jr, who died in 1999, but also to gush over his "attractive" looks.
Others suggested that the 27-year-old, a Yale and Harvard graduate, could be a future Democratic political star, with some suggesting he could even be a future president.
One person said: "Why has no one told me how insanely hot Jack Shlossberg is? Is he single? Asking for me."
Caroline and Edwin have two other children - Rose, 32, and Tatiana, 30 - and the three siblings are the only grandchildren of the former President.
John F. Kennedy accepted the Democratic nomination in Los Angeles 60 years ago last month, calling for renewal and a 'New Frontier' for the 1960s.
Exploiting his glamour and youthful confidence, he outshone the prickly Nixon in America's first televised debates in the fall.
However, he only won the election by a bare margin, relying partly on the creaking coalition of Southern Democrats who had backed the party since the Civil War.

JFK and Jackie Bouvier suffered a series of personal tragedies during their marriage, including a stillborn daughter in 1956 and the death of their baby son Patrick in 1963.
Jackie was making her first public appearance since Patrick's death when JFK was shot dead in Dallas on November 22, 1963.
Caroline was born in 1957 and her brother John Jr in 1960, but he died in a plane crash with his wife and sister-in-law in 1999.
The Kennedy family also has a stake in this year's Senate elections, with congressman Joe Kennedy III challenging Massachusetts senator Ed Markey in the Democratic primary race.
Kennedy, 39, and Markey, 74, crossed swords in their final televised debate last night before the primary on September 1.
Joe Kennedy is the grandson of JFK's brother Robert F. Kennedy, who ran for president in 1968 before he too was killed by an assassin's bullet.
The siblings also included Joseph Kennedy Jr, who died in action in World War II, and Kathleen 'Kick' Kennedy who was killed in a 1948 plane crash.
Among the other children of Joseph and Rose Kennedy, Rosemary died in 2005, Patricia in 2006, Eunice in 2009 and Ted two weeks later.
The last survivor of JFK's siblings, Jean Kennedy Smith, died aged 92 earlier this year.
She served as US ambassador to Ireland in the 1990s and was hailed for helping to bring peace to Northern Ireland after decades of political violence.
