Man who crashed his truck through the front gate of Canadian PM Justin Trudeau's property in Ottawa was armed with several weapons before wandering the grounds for 13 minutes

Canadian police said Friday an armed man who this week crashed his truck through a gate on the grounds where Prime Minister Justin Trudeau lives had several weapons and then roamed around the estate for 13 minutes.

Police earlier identified the suspect as Corey Hurren, a member of Canada's armed forces and a reservist in Canadian Rangers.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Deputy Commissioner Mike Duheme has not officially named the suspect despite Hurren being identified in several media reports.

Hurren, who runs a small sausage-making business, is believed to have driven 1,180 miles from Manitoba to Ottawa.

The man had a bail hearing Friday. Police, who said he's facing multiple charges, believe he was acting alone.

Police said the man crashed his truck through the iron gates of the sprawling Rideau Hall estate at 1 Sussex Drive at 6:30am on Thursday. 

The truck was disabled but was still able to travel 100 meters into the groups. The suspect was spotted with a rifle before being contained in a greenhouse on the sprawling property. 

Security footage shows Hurren carrying a gun walking towards a rose garden where he briefly sheltered. Police began talking to him and he was arrested two hours later.

'There was never any danger to the prime minister and his family nor to the governor general, as neither were on the grounds at the time of the incident,' Duheme said.

Trudeau lives on the grounds of the property where Canada's governor general resides. The post of governor general, currently held by Julie Payette, is a mostly ceremonial position. Payette also was not at the home at the time.

Trudeau, his wife and three children live in a cottage on the property because the prime minister's traditional residence is in disrepair.

'This was something that no one wants to hear, that someone entered your home,' Trudeau said. 'I want to extend my sincere thanks to the RCMP and the Ottawa police service that did a remarkable job in ensuring that there were not injuries.'

An anonymous source told CBC News the suspect had driven from Manitoba and had a long gun and a note with him.

Photos taken at the scene showed a visibly damaged wrought-iron entrance gate  and a police robot examining a black Dodge Ram pickup truck parked on the estate grounds. 

The vehicle's airbag appeared to have deployed, purportedly after the Dodge had crashed through the gate. 

The rear backseat door was open, revealing inside a stack of cardboard boxes and what appeared to be Canadian Forces rations, reported the Ottawa Citizen. 

At one point the robot was seen removing a black leather jacket adorned with patches and insignia from the pickup truck.

A police dog was also brought it to search the intruder's vehicle for any dangerous materials.  

'We thank the RCMP and police for quickly resolving the situation this morning at Rideau Hall. All of our staff are safe,' Payette tweeted. 

Trudeau declined to comment further.
