New York neurologist's daughter says her father has had to resort to using a TAKE-OUT container and shower cap while other staff don trash bags as hospitals run out of supplies during the coronavirus pandemic

Doctors and medical personnel at hospitals in New York are having to get extremely creative when trying to find suitable ways to protect themselves in their war against the coronavirus.
A Twitter user, M Goodleaf, posted a thread on Friday sharing photos of her neurologist dad wearing his innovative mask to show that even doctors are often ill-prepared.
The doctor, who is called to consult patients who have tested positive for the coronavirus, can be seen wearing a 'garbage bag on his head' and 'a face mask made from Uncle Giuseppe take out dinner stapled to a shower cap.'

Goodleaf added: 'Yes he is wearing surgical scrubs (no clothes from home!) and a gown and gloves. The president and governor say there is enough protective devices for health care providers??!?!! WRONG.
'PLEASE DO SOMETHING. CALL YOUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES. DONATE SUPPLIES IF YOU HAVE THEM.'
There are now more than 44,000 cases of infection in the state of New York. Currently, 6,481 people are hospitalized and 1,583 people are in ICU beds. There are 25,573 cases in the city.

The post comes after a hospital worker died from the coronavirus after he had been working at a hospital where employees had to use trash bags as protective gowns.
Kious Kelly, 48, died at Mount Sinai West hospital in Manhattan on Tuesday night, a week after he was admitted upon testing positive for coronavirus, according to the New York Post.
Kelly was an assistant nursing manager at Mount Sinai West, which like other hospitals in New York and elsewhere has been hit by an urgent shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks and isolation gowns.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has issued a stark warning that the city's healthcare system has nine days before potential collapse under the strain of the coronavirus pandemic unless urgent measures are taken.
At a press conference on Friday, de Blasio said that he believes the city's strained healthcare system has the personnel and supplies to make it through next week, but beyond that is uncertain.
It came as total cases in the city hit 25,573, deaths reached 450, and hospitals throughout the city reported being strained.
'After next Sunday, April 5, is when I get very, very worried about everything we're gonna need,' he said, saying that an infusion of medical staff and equipment was needed to stave off disaster.
'I've put down that marker to the White House, that that is a decisive moment for the city of New York,' he said, saying the city urgently needs additional federal and military support, as well as at least 15,000 ventilators.
'We need to make sure we can get to that day and face the week after that, and the week after that as well,' de Blasio said. 'Right now we're not there.'
'I think people need to be ready for battle, and the hard truth helps them gird themselves for what's ahead,' he continued.
Today, 64 additional clinicians were sent to Elmhurst, and 105 extra nurses are going there tomorrow, according to de Blasio. In addition, 45 members of the hospital's ambulatory staff have been reassigned to work on coronvirus patients.
