She Just Did It Again: AOC Uses Wildly Out of Context Race Numbers & the Internet’s Crushing Her for It

Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York deceived her Twitter followers by slamming a prestigious school as a “system failure” for its racial inequality while neglecting to mention most of the students are Asian-American.
The 29-year-old self-identified democratic socialist was responding to an article published Monday by The New York Times about Stuyvesant High School, a selective public school in New York City.
As the headline of the article notes, only seven black students were admitted to Stuyvesant this year.
Ocasio-Cortez tweeted that this is a symptom of “education inequity,” adding typical left-wing buzzwords like “racial wealth gap” and “injustice.”
“68% of all NYC public school students are Black or Latino,” she said. “To only have 7 Black students accepted into Stuyvesant (a *public* high school) tells us that this is a system failure.

“Education inequity is a major factor in the racial wealth gap. This is what injustice looks like.”
But Ocasio-Cortez either neglected to read the article or intentionally misled her Twitter followers.
The ubiquitous racial inequality condemned by the left is based on the notion that privileged white people, as a majority, act in ways that are oppressive to minority groups.
But a minority group is the majority at the school Ocasio-Cortez was bashing for “education inequity.”
The Times reported that “mostly low-income Asian students” make up a whopping 74 percent of students at Stuyvesant, and 66 percent of students admitted this year are Asian-American.
Only 22 percent of students admitted this year are white.
Admission is based on merit as applicants take an “exam that tests their mastery of math and English,” according to The Times.

To summarize: Ocasio-Cortez attacked a school for accepting mostly low-income minority students who earned it.
Twitter users had a field day with the freshman representative’s tweet.
It is called earning it. Stuyvesant has 74 percent Asian students. Do you want more white kids in the school? Your idea is if you cannot earn it you force the school to take unqualified kids.

This is not what injustice looks like. It is what merit looks like.
68% of all NYC public school students are Black or Latino.

To only have 7 Black students accepted into Stuyvesant (a *public* high school) tells us that this is a system failure.

Education inequity is a major factor in the racial wealth gap. This is what injustice looks like.
You see a racial issue, the real world sees kids who studied, worked hard and wanted to go to some of the best schools in the country. They had a goal and reached it. Not everyone should get a participation trophy.
68% of all NYC public school students are Black or Latino.

To only have 7 Black students accepted into Stuyvesant (a *public* high school) tells us that this is a system failure.

Education inequity is a major factor in the racial wealth gap. This is what injustice looks like.
Wait -benefiting Asian applicants is educational inequity? What advantage are Asians given that other minority groups are not given? Other than having an amazing educationally-focused family mindset and community culture? We should celebrate their success, not racialize it.
Leftists are now facing a difficult question in their crusade for racial equality. They must ask themselves if they are willing to suppress the achievements of people from one minority group to give unearned positions to people from other minority groups.
This situation perfectly demonstrates that ridiculous nature of identity politics.
Instead of obsessing over race, prestigious schools should choose students based on merit, which is precisely what Stuyvesant High School does with its entrance exams.
It’s obvious that Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t actually care about minority students — at least when they’re low-income Asian-Americans.

She’s a demagogue trying to stoke anger and racial hatred for political gain.
