70 years in love: Meet Hoi An's happiest and sweetest couple (10 Pics)

Le Van So, 92 and his wife Nguyen Thi Loi, 85, say they do not let everyday hardship affect their joyful marriage

Le Van So, 92, and his wife Nguyen Thi Loi, 85, both grew up in Tra Que, the famous vegetable farming village in Hoi An. They have been together for more than 70 years.

Loi does not remember how long they have been married for but So said they tied the knot in 1949, after nearly ten years in a relationship. Soon after that, he was imprisoned for several years for fighting against the French colonial government. 

He came home in 1954 after the French were defeated. He said he had tried to spend as much time with his wife as possible to compensate for their separation. 

The couple live with a dog. They have five children, who have moved out.

They still work on their vegetable gardens every day to make a living. Locals said they are the best couple and the best role models in the village.

So shows a foreign tourist how to carry water on a shoulder pole. Tra Que is a popular tourist attraction of Hoi An and the old couple hosts up to ten group of foreign visitors every day. 

The couple know very few foreign words, apart from "Hello" or "Bonjour," but many tourists are just amazed by the fact that they smile a lot and work very hard. 

They also make bamboo baskets. 

So said they stay happy by listening to each other. “We keep each other happy and we never stop working. That’s how we can live long.”
