Death threats sent to pair of Canadian theater owners set to show pro-life movie 'Unplanned' – and one has already bowed out
Death threats were sent to a pair of Canadian theater owners set to show the pro-life movie "Unplanned" this Friday — and while police are investigating, one of the owners has already bowed out, LifeSiteNews reported.
The two independent cinema owners contacted police after receiving death threats they viewed as credible, and that they are "fearful for their families," B.J. McKelvie — a pastor and president of Cinedicon, the Canadian distributor of the movie — told the outlet.
Chuck Konzelman, one of the movie's producers and directors, told the outlet that the list of over 40 Canadian theaters that intend to show "Unplanned" on Friday was removed from the movie's website as a safety measure.
And while one of the two owners canceled the "Unplanned" screening, McKelvie told LifeSiteNews the other theaters "are holding their ground." Another independent theater owner "has been harassed to the extreme," the outlet said.
LifeSite News added that "Canada's liberal media has been highlighting the allegations of the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada" that the movie is "propaganda," spreads "vicious falsehoods," and could "incite fanatics to commit acts of harassment or violence against clinics or doctors."
Uphill battle for 'Unplanned'
"Unplanned" received an R-rating prior to its release for "some disturbing/bloody images" — which means that while a 15-year-old can get an abortion without parental consent, she can't enter a theater to watch "Unplanned" without a parent or guardian.
Twitter suspended the movie's account on its opening weekend, and the film's Twitter followers inexplicably plunged to under 200 when it had amassed over 200,000 just hours after the suspension. Both the follower count and suspension were soon reversed, but the damage was done.
In April, it was pointed out that Google labeled "Unplanned" as a "drama/propaganda." A Google spokesperson told Fox News that its "Knowledge Graph" analyzed web content on the movie, and that a large volume of it described "Unplanned" as propaganda and created the label.
"When we're made aware of disputed facts in our Knowledge Graph, we work to fix the issues, as we've done in this case," the spokesperson told Fox News, which reported that Google updated its search results so that "propaganda" no longer appeared.
