Chevy Chase! California car dealership lets customer trade in his Corvette for new 2022 model after technician who fixed the supercar was caught taking it on 148mph street race

A California Chevrolet dealership has let a customer trade in his 2021 C8 Corvette for a new 2022 model after a mechanic used the supercar in a 148mph street race against a Dodge Charger earlier this month.

After a family-owned dealership's mechanic fixed a spark plug in a customer's 2021 C8 Corvette - a routine repair - he then used it in the impromptu street race.

But the mechanic was busted by the car's Performance Data Recorder (PDR) valet mode, which recorded the 148mph joyride in incriminating video footage.

The video and story was first reported by The Drive and then picked up across the country by other media outlets.

To make up for his employee's lack indiscretion, the owner of the dealership - Inder Dosanjh - offered the car's owner an upgrade to a 2022 Corvette - taxes included.

They both confirmed the 2022 model has been ordered and submitted for production.

'That was pretty shocking,' the car's owner told The Drive, which broke the story earlier this month.

In an August 20 Facebook post, Dosanjh attached to the story about the upgrade and said, 'It’s all about doing the right thing.'

The mechanic who took the car for the race has not been named, and it is unclear what discipline he faced over the joyride.
