Gunman shoots and kills a cop who was working security for a high school basketball playoff game in New Orleans
A law enforcement officer has been fatally shot at a high school in New Orleans on Friday night during a basketball game in the gym.
New Orleans police were called to the George Washington Carver High School at around 6.30pm on Friday evening after getting reports of multiple gunshots.
A WWL-TV photographer who had been covering the game shared that the shots occurred near the gym. WGNO reports that the shooting took place in the foyer of the building, on the other side of doors that lead to the gym.
It was the same area where tickets and temperature checks were both being conducted.

A suspect at the scene has been taken into custody but that person's identity has not been released.
Officials with the New Orleans police Department shared that the officer was not a member of their agency.
The officer's identity won't be released until officials can alert their family. However, 2nd City Court Constable Edwin Shorty said that the victim was a deputy in his office, NOLA.com reports.

Law enforcement personnel routinely work as security guards for events at schools under private contract but it is unknown whether the deputy constable was on duty.
It is also currently unclear whether other people were injured at the scene.
The incident is currently being investigated as a homicide.
At the time of the shooting, Carver was playing Warren Easton in a playoff game.
The gymnasium was placed on lockdown, following the shooting, which prevented people from entering or leaving the area. The parking lot was also placed on lockdown as officers responded to the scene.
