Ted Cruz slams 'out-of-touch' John Kerry after the Biden climate czar boasts that solar power jobs are a 'better choice' for workers instead of the canceled Keystone XL pipeline

Senator Ted Cruz (TX-R) claimed that climate czar John Kerry was 'out-of-touch' when making comments about blue-collar workers who were no longer working on the controversial Keystone XL pipeline.

Cruz - who himself, is still in hot water given his connection to the insurrectionist at the Capitol - appeared on Fox News Primetime on Wednesday just moments after President Joe Biden tied climate change to creating job opportunity.

During his Wednesday signing, Biden revoked a key cross-border presidential permit needed to finish the controversial Keystone XL pipeline - a move that angered Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and ended the $8 billion pipeline.

Kerry - who joins the National Security Council in his role - spoke just before Biden signed the climate change executive orders.

'It is now cheaper to deal with the crisis of climate than destroy it,' Kerry said of why the administration was pushing this now as it combats COVID and tries to improve the economy.

He argued there were jobs for workers in the solar and wind energy - positions that could be filled by oil and gas workers who lost their jobs.

'You look at the consequences of black lung for a miner, for instance, and measure that against the fastest-growing job in the United States, [which] before COVID was the solar power technician,' Kerry said Wednesday. 'The same people can do those jobs, but the choice of doing the solar power one now is a better choice'

'Unfortunately workers have been fed a false narrative, no surprise, for the last four years' about the shift to clean energy, Kerry said. 'They've been fed that somehow dealing with climate is coming at their expense. No, it's not.'

Kerry concluded: 'You look at the consequences of black lung for a miner, for instance, and measure that against the fastest-growing job in the United States, [which] before COVID was the solar power technician. The same people can do those jobs, but the choice of doing the solar power one now is a better choice.'

Cruz said of Kerry's message: 'It is not a unifying message, and it is not doing the job we should be doing [in] fighting for working men and women in this country.'

Cruz said of Kerry: : 'What an arrogant, out-of-touch statement for a centimillionaire to say. You know, "You little people, you know, I don't like the choices you're making, and so your jobs go away," as John Kerry said right there'

He later added: 'What an arrogant, out-of-touch statement for a centimillionaire to say. You know, "You little people, you know, I don't like the choices you're making, and so your jobs go away," as John Kerry said right there.

'Quelle surprise that the Democratic elites have decided that blue-collar workers, that union members, that men and women with calluses on their hands, they've made the wrong choices, in John Kerry's words.'

Biden already has taken a series of actions to combat climate change - a dramatic reversal from the policies under former President Donald Trump.

On his first day as president, Biden signed the papers for the United States to rejoin the Paris Climate Accord after Trump removed the country from the climate agreement.

Biden will also host a Leaders' Climate Summit on Earth Day, April 22, 2021.

Some Democrats said Biden should do more, including Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, who called on the president to declare a national emergency.

'President Biden should consider the declaration of a national emergency on climate change,' Schumer said on the Senate floor Wednesday morning.

'It would allow President Biden to tap additional resources,' he pointed out.
