Slammed to the ground, beaten with a baseball bat and trapped under a rock: Child is caught on camera repeatedly attacking Oklahoma family's dachshund puppy, leaving him with two broken legs and needing $3,000 surgery

A boy was caught on camera beating an Oklahoma family's beloved six-month-old dachshund puppy in their own backyard. 

The Winbush family came home from dinner in Lawson on Monday night to find the puppy, Sprocket, gravely wounded and trapped underneath a portable shed.

A rock had been placed on top of the four-pound pup so he couldn't escape.   

David Winbush checked home surveillance footage and watched in horror as a child broke into the yard and began beating the animal, striking him repeatedly and slamming him into the ground.

Winbush said the child left and came back four different times to continue his assault.

'He comes back with a baseball bat for the final time and then just strolls out of the driveway like nothing ever happened,' Winbush told News 9.

Sprocket was left with two broken legs and will need $3,000-worth of surgery to repair his injuries. 

A GoFundMe page has already raised more than $6,000 as of Wednesday to help cover Sprocket's medical bills, which Winbush says will be nearly impossible to pay on his own.

'I don't know what to do,' he said. 'I'll sell my pick up it doesn't matter to me, that is my buddy.'

Apart from the physical injuries, Winbush expressed sadness that the animal may never be the same. 

'If he ever does get fixed where he can walk again, his spirit will be broken, meaning he will cower down to everybody,' he said. 

'He will not be a happy animal anymore, he will always be like an abused child, just bow down and out and not want anything.' 

The child believed to have abused the puppy has been identified, but his father declined to comment, News 9 reports.  

The Winbush family is planning to press criminal charges.
